Date A point or period of time associated with an event in the lifecycle of the resource 2006-04-13 Title A name given to the resource Oral History Interview with Vasili Verrios Description An account of the resource Vasili Verrios, long-time member of Sacramento Greek-American community, recounted his experiences as an immigrant and first-generation Greek American. Verrios began with details about his early life in a military family residing in Athens Greece. Vasili came to America through a high school foreign exchange student program at South Dakota State. Vasili then moved to Sacramento to live with his brother who had just returned from active military duty during the Korean War. Vasili attended City College in Sacramento before earning his degree in Health Administration at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. Vasili worked for the Mercy Health System 40 years. Verrios discussed his early days in Sacramento working as a manager at the Tower Theater and going to school. Other topics included memories of the festivals and gatherings of the close-knit Greek American Community in Sacramento, the inclusive community connection through the Greek Orthodox Church, and Sacramento area Greek philanthropists and politicians. Verrios shared what it meant to him be Greek and observations on young Greek American people reconnecting with the Church in search of their roots.
