Originally from Poland, he immigrated to the United States on November 5, 1905. Joseph Messing worked in New York City as a cutter, contracted tuberculosis there, and was a patient at the JCRS from December 24, 1923 to February 19, 1924, and from March 30 to June 24, 1925. He died November 27, 1925 in Queens, New York, survived by four children and his wife Mollie. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish working men along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. It was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside of Denver.</text>
