<text>Colfax Red Cross Active: Has Made And Forwarded More Than 5476 Articles.; Colfax Red Cross Active: Has Made And Forwarded More Than 5476 Articles. The Colfax branch of Spokane chapter of the Red Cross reports a splendid amount of work done. Between April 10, 1917, and January 16, 1918, the branch has made and forwarded to Spokane a total of 5746 articles, of which 2017 were large pieces, such as bed shirts and pajama suits. The branch conducted its Christmas membership campaign wholly on the voluntary plan. No committees or solicitors were sent out, yet out of a population of 3000 1939 paid memberships were obtained in the town itself. Outside districts have been organized into 10 auxiliaries tributary to Colfax. The membership in the entire district, comprising abcut one-fourth of Whitman county, is 4758. Mrs. H. W. Ranlett, official Red Cross organizier, returned yesterday from a trip to several branches in Whitman county. She reports that the Pullman branch has auxiliaries at Colton, Johnson, Albion and Banner school. Mrs. Thorpe, chairman of the branch, has just finished instructing a class of 25 in surgical dressings, and next week a class of 25 college students will take up the same course. Mrs. Ranlett also reports the existence of a strong and efficient branch in Palouse. It has two auxiliaries, and requests are coming in from the country districts for the formation of others. This branch has specialized in knitting, and its product is so uniformly good that any of the garments turned out might be used as models. The window decoration placed at Red Cross headquarters two weeks ago by the Crescent store, under the direction of Allan Dean, its head window decorator, proved so attractive and excited so much interest that it was continued a week longer than originally intended. It has now been removed and the windows dressed by Oscar Snyder of Culbertson, Grote-Rankin's, assisted by V. Martin.</text>
