<text>Text on sign reads: "Black Lives Matter - Would you care if it were your child?". PH Coll 1490.KinseyK27 On Saturday, April 15, 2017, Seattle Black Lives Matter held a march in downtown Seattle, called BlackLivesMatter 2.0 March. The march began at Westlake Center and ended at the U.S. District Courthouse at 700 Stewart Street, in downtown Seattle. Participants were encouraged to wear black knitted hats to show their rejection of discrimination. Organizers included Mohawk Kuzma (also known as Miles Partman) and Jessica Owens. Organizers estimate that around 7,000 people participated in the march. The Black Lives Matter movement was founded by Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza in July 2013. The movement was created after the murder of 17-year old Trayvon Martin and the subsequent failure of the judicial system to hold his killer, George Zimmerman, accountable for his crime. According to organizers, “Black Lives Matter is an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.”</text>
