    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[156 Feb. 7 Wed. 7:00 P.M. My dearest darling: Just a little while ago Dana Nickelsburg phoned - she's here in Carmel looking for a place to live. I asked her to come up this evening, and expect her any minute. She is welcome to stay in our extra room if she wants to. I believe she said she planned to stay until Sunday. This morning I was awakened by ‚Äòtoi, toi, da dja da DA.‚Äô The sprout had kicked off all her covers, and was cold. So---I took her into bed - she felt like a little ‚Äòfrigidator‚Äô - and we slept til 8:00. She woke me up by slapping me gently on the cheek - gently but persistently til I opened an eye and smiled at her, and she gave me a big smile back. When we got down to the P.O. all your back letters were waiting together with the one for today. I'll answer them after Dana leaves. Olsen's Navy # is 3964 and this time I have it right. We got home just in time for [pg 2] lunch - shortly afterwards there was a knock on the door and it was Kay Miller, and young Glen. I met Kay thru Marge. Her husband is a 2nd Lt. stationed at Fort Ord. Glen is 9 ¬Ω months old - he and Wendy get along very well, because they are near the same size and age. We put the two youngsters in the play pen, and they played with some of Wendy's Christmas toys. Kay drove us downtown to shop, and then we rode along scenic drive. There was a haze over the ocean, but the view was lovely as ever. Kay and Wally will be here til Sept. and I can have their house when they leave. Two bedrooms at $55, I've not seen it, but Marge says it's very nice. However, I would like to move before this summer if anything turns up as long as I have to move us eventually I've just about give up the trip east and to Memphis. It's just too much of a job for me alone - and tho I could possibly see getting there, it would be almost impossible getting back with an ‚Äòin to everything Wendy‚Äô and having to resettle in Carmel. [pg 3] I‚Äôd like to get closer to the beach in a 2 bedroom house, at about the same price - certainly not higher than $65 - Western Auto phoned this afternoon to tell me that Wendy's Taylor Tot is here! Now I hope either Bev or Helen can drive me over to pick it up. Wendy is trying to pull herself to a standing position in the pen - she gets just about halfway, and then slides down again. 10:15 Dana has just left. I told her to go see Gladys, and then phone me tomorrow morning. Wendy and I will probably have lunch with her downtown. She wants to get to Hawaii too. Now that Nimitz has moved - see what possibilities there are honey - I‚Äôd leave in half an hour - even if I knew there was just a possibility of seeing you briefly now and then. Here's the news in brief: Steve expects to ship anytime now - John May is looking forward to getting stateside shortly - The [Krueckebergs?] have another little girl - John Underwood invested $1500 in a S.F. flat, and now can't get rid of it to go to N.Y. That's about all I can remember I guess. Oh there's one more thing - I guess it [pg 4] isn't nice to repeat such things - but just between you and me - Dana said she couldn't figure out how I managed to look so well and trim while I was pregalink! #116 Isn't there any chance of your getting a job teaching [J?] Stateside? Have repeated what Barbara said about the men in Washington wanting to get out. Too bad you can't work an exchange. #117 Sorry about the coins, but that gives me another little thing to look forward to. How bout making clothes pin dolls in your handicraft class. Paint on faces and crochet or sew skirts - yarn glued on for hair. I could make one and send it as a sample if you like. #118 Evelyn Cash made the pink sweater for Wendy - We received just before leaving N.Y. #119 I hit my low stride the same time you did. I don't think there is anything worse than that empty feeling. It made me feel good to hear you‚Äôd received an ‚Äòavalanche of mail.‚Äô Check your classification if you can - Will seemed to think there was a good possibility that yours was made (SJ) [pg 5] Barbara still has to rewrite her book before it's published. Are you implying my morale was low while we were engaged!!! For shame!!!! No Bill Bull didn't reverse the charges. Am anxious to hear about the Bourbon. Can just imagine how mad you must have gotten. #124 I've written to M and F to watch the Times carefully, and send on any pertinent clippings. I'll go to the library either tomorrow or the next day. Won't it be wonderful when we‚Äôre together again, and don't have to depend on dreams - but in the meanwhile isn't it good to have dreams to depend on!
