Tokio, Feb. 23.‚Äî(U.P.)‚ÄîA spirit of preparedness for war today gripped Tokio. Altho the press printed few accounts of actual fighting in the Jehol region, scenes were reminiscent of a wartime era. Throughout the day throngs of men, women and children visited the Yasykuni shrine, a memorial as sacred to the Nipponese mind as the tomb of the unknown soldier to the American. The women, zealously patriotic, were organizing themselves into groups, knitting and packing comfort kits, to ship to the soldiers. Their patriotic fervor was symbolized by a 70-year-old woman who donated 40 pounds of tinfoil, torn from discarded cigarette packs, to the army as material for bullets.]]></dcterms:description>
