Friday My Dearest Darling: Such a dreary, foggy day, and no mail. I do miss the sunshine so much - tho I must admit fog is more pleasant than humid heat. Last night I had two night mares- the first time I dreamt there was someone breaking into the house - when I woke up sufficiently I realized that it was a dog trying to get into our garbage can outside. The second time I was back in college - this time Columbia - it was the first day, and I was all mixed up trying to find classrooms - I finally landed up in a knitting class-with [pg 2] an old bitch, who had it in for me because I was late - Sure was glad to wake up and hear Wendy awake and clamoring to get into bed with me. It wasn't half an hour before she fell out of bed tumbling the phone over with her. She wasn't hurt, but her feeling were. Right now she's standing at the front door, pushing the curtains aside and peering out. The Presidio is buzzing, and everyone is on tenterhooks. Evidently Navy MG is going to fold up, and the men naturally are wondering what is to become of them. All Japanese training has been stopped - tho there are still a few men studying Chinese. Since the men have all had their rating changed to DUs they can be assigned to almost anything. Of course the [pg 3] Boulder men will probably go to Washington, in which case I'm going to be mad as hell. Bobbie has given Wendy some big cardboard blocks, and she's having a wonderful time playing with them, and of course talking a blue streak. This morning I bought some of the loveliest red dahlias - like the ones we sent Gladys last Fall - I have a big bowl on the mantle between yellow candles, and also some in the bamboo holders outside arranged with shiny green scrub oak leaves. 6:10 Dana phoned while I was feeding Wendy to tell me that Steve was anchored near Tinian, and was going to try and ferry across to see you. Also said that Art [Kruckeberg?] is still in the same vicinity [pg 4] and doing the same sort of work Steve is. 8:15 Will just phoned-he still doesn't have even a room, and Ruth is due on the 15th. He too said that something big is in the wind - and that it looked as if Navy MG at the Presidio was going to bust. I wonder just how, if at all, that will effect you. I suppose as far as MG language men are concerned, its not going to make much difference one way or the other as far as getting out of the Navy is concerned.
