<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Red Cross Auxiliary Has 109 Members: Turns In Nearly 400 Articles Since November 28-Make No More Trench Caps.; Red Cross Auxiliary Has 109 Members: Turns In Nearly 400 Articles Since November 28-Make No More Trench Caps. The Monroe Park auxiliary of the Red Cross meets in St. Francis hall, Heroy avenue and Jefferson street, every Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 to 4. It has 109 members and is using nine sewing machines, and could use more. Any one who can loan a machine will please call up Mrs. C. B. Nash, Maxwell 319. At a recent entertainment given by the auxiliary, $60 was cleared for the benefit of the Red Cross. Since the organization of the auxiliary, November 28, it has turned in nearly 400 articles of its own manufacture to Red Cross headquarters. A large proportion of these were articles involving time and expert workmanship, as sweaters, bed shirts, and convalescent coats. The officers of the auxiliary are: Chairman, Mrs. C. B. Nash; vice chairman, Mrs. J. B. Herman; secretary, Mrs. Joseph Janelle; treasurer, Mrs. Lake France. Orders just received at Red Cross headquarters from the office of the northwest division direct that chapters discontinue the making of trench caps, as the war department is including knitted trench caps in each man's equipment. Red Cross knitters should, therefore, devote time to sweaters, socks, etc. The trench cap is not the same as the helmet, which is still continued by the Red Cross. Twenty members were present at the Pasadena Red Cross meeting Wednesday. The following finished articles have been completed and will be sent to the Red Cross headquarters in Spokane: Twelve bed sheets, 24 convalescent gowns, three pairs wristlets, four sweaters, 13 pairs socks, six ambulance pillows, 12 knitted eye bandages, 24 handkerchiefs. At the Millwood Red Cross meeting 30 members were present. A program was given Wednesday night for the benefit of the Red Cross, netting $45. The following articles have been completed by the Red Cross auxiliary and will be sent to the Red Cross headquarters in Spokane: Six sheets, four draw sheets, four pairs of pillow cases, eight hospital bed shirts, three pajamas, one convalescent robe, four pairs socks, two pairs wristlets, two sweaters, three pairs bed socks. The Trent Red Cross auxiliary met with Mrs. Bennett. Those present were: Mrs. L. O. Wilson, Mrs. A. A. Rien, Mrs. C. B. Wreaver, Mrs. C. H. Fielberg, Mrs. Yale, Mrs. J. A. Narup, Mrs. R. Kreig, Mrs. J. J. Keeley, Mrs. J. W. Skerry, Mrs. A. G. Spring, Mrs. C. A. Smith, Mrs. J. H. Stegner, Mrs. F. Stitz, Miss K. Bilmaeir, Miss H. Cruickshank, Miss R. Matsch, Mrs. H. Bennett, Mrs. L. F. Bennett, Mrs. H. Davis, Mrs. J. W. Briggs. The society voted to buy yarn and knit sweaters for eight boys who left the Trent community for the war. One new member joined, making 50 members. Report was read of the recent entertainment, which netted $83.45. This week five sweaters and four pairs of socks were turned in.]]></dcterms:description>
