<text>Cougars Ready For Stanford: Southern Division Champions Boast A Strong offensive.; Cougars Ready For Stanford: Southern Division Champions Boast A Strong offensive. WASHINGTON STATE COLLEGE, PULLMAN, March 24.— Statistical records of the season's play show that Stanford will match its great scoring machine against the close-knit defensive work of Washington State when the southern and northern division winners tangle here Friday, Saturday and possibly Monday for the Pacific Coast conference basketball championship. Stanford's record hasn't been all offensive and neither has the Cougars' been defensive, but an analysis of the season's results reveals the teams strongest in those departments. In 25 games the Indians have averaged 50 points a game against 34 for their opponents. Washington State in 30 games has averaged 39 points a game to 31% for its rivals. Stanford won 23 games in its 25 starts while W. S. C. won 24 in its 30 contests. Shoot From All Angles. Using a zone defense and a fast- breaking attack, Stanford upon recovering the ball sweeps down the floor with a rush and peppers the hoop from all angles. Many of the Indians' baskets come following rebound shots with Angelo (Hank) Luisetti, for two years all- American forward, doing his greatest work in the wild scrambles under the backboard. Luisetti has scored almost a third of his team's points this year. Art Stoefen, regarded by the Stanfordites as the greatest center in their history, is dynamite under the backboard at either end of the court, according to reports from the south. He is a capable scorer and a slicker at getting the ball in thick play. Have Height Advantage. Stanford will have a height advantage of nearly two inches per man average over the Cougar lineup. Washington State stacks up well in altitude at the forwards and center but falls short in the guard posts. The probable starting lineups, with heights follow: Stanford: Forwards—Hank Luisetti, 6 feet 3 inches, and Howie Turner, 6 feet 2% inches; center— Art Stoefen, 6 feet 4 inches; guard—Captain Dinty Moore, 6 feet 1 inch, and Jack Calderwood, 6 feet 3 inches. Washington State; Forwards— Ed Kerpa, 6 feet 1 inch, and John Kosich, 6 feet 4 inches; center— Ivar Nelson, 6 feet 4 inches; guards—Captain Bill Dahlke, 5 feet 10 inches, and Frank Hooper, 5 feet 11 inches. Stanford and Washington State last met in basketball in 1922, the year that Jack Friel was captain of the Cougar five. Playing at Palo Alto, Friel's club won both games by scores of 21-16 and 15-13. During the period from 1919 to 1922 Stanford and W. S. C. met eight times in the hoop sportwith the Cougars winning five of the games. Earl Foster, W. S. C. graduate manager, announced tonight that over 1000 seats were still available for both Friday and Saturday nights, despite rumors to the contrary.</text>
