<text>242 April 27 - Friday - 7:00 P.M. When I turned on the radio this morning it was playing “Night and Day.” My Dearly Beloved: Sammy just brought me the most gorgeous box of gardenias - he said he didn't have what you had ordered, but bought me the closest thing - Sweety, I'm so excited - just never had anything like this before - it brings you so close darling - just the little extra special thing - that's you to me always - And the “Bond St” - eau de cologne and perfume. How did you ever know that that was the particular stink I’d be wanting? Have already told you about the bottle I got yesterday - now I have open to use and one to save. Darling this really makes it seem like a birthday. Last night I opened the Special just before going to bed - well, it was [pg 2] the 27th where you were, so I knew you wouldn't mind. Sweety - I love the picture so much, not only does it look as I like to see you best, but you look so well, and as if you have put on weight - your arms look bigger and your face fuller - and I love the dimple- The gardenia smell is all thru the house now - tomorrow I'm going to wear one in my hair. This morning when we woke up, I took Wendy into bed, and opened your packages. I think the kerchiefs are very attractive, and can hardly wait for a windy day so that we can wear them. I tried Wendy's on, and she looked so pleased, I could almost hear her say, “Don't I look pretty?” The geta are precious - I'm going to take them down to Merle's Treasure Chest, and have pins put on the back - they'll make attractive lapel pins for my suits or new white shirt. [pg 3] No mail yet - have had none since Tuesday. Bought some brown wool to make into a pair of socks for you. Do you like the color? There wasn't much choice - I'm rather disappointed in this last batch of pictures, but there are a few good ones. Bought myself another present - a cherry colored cardigan - heavy knit and long sleeves - it's a glorious color. On our way home we stopped to see Bev for a few minutes. Isabel was at home (she works at Fort Ord) with an upset stomach and this afternoon Gladys phoned to tell me that she and Bev had just taken Isabel to the hospital with appendicitis. Bev is going to phone later this evening, and tell me how she is. It's a damn shame - the family didn't want her to come out in the first place, and after she did get out she [pg 4] was having a wonderful time. This afternoon I received a note from Norman - he's flying down again tomorrow - say he's going to buzz the house about noon and will bring a good camera and lots of film. I'm particularly anxious now to have some really good pictures of Wendy, and one of me and the gardenias. I haven't been able to get him and his crew chief rooms - but perhaps there will be a cancellation at the San Carlos in Monterey tomorrow. Gladys has offered rooms in her house - but I’d hate to bother her, especially since she doesn't have a maid. M and F got their call through about 3:30. It was just like all long distance calls - everyone talked at once and nobody said much of anything. They were a bit concerned, because my mail to [pg 5] them had been held up, and sounded relieved when I told them I didn't know why there had been any delay. Wendy was out on the patio at the time, so she couldn't make any noises for them. Gerry and Dickie stopped by about 4:30 and brought me a birthday present - a very good looking pottery cigarette holder and ash tray in a tannish gray carmel clay lined with a soft green glaze. Helen and Bobbie stopped by too - Helen didn't know it was my birthday - and we had drinks all around - they each had two and I one. Tonight I'm walking down to the P.O. and afterwards- am looking forward to going to bed in the striped pajamas between clean sheets - and with some “Bond [pg 6] Street” on the pillow cases. All I need is you beside me - that's a date for next year - it's just got to be. Darling, I love you so very much - you've made me so happy since we've known each other - I do love being your wife - belonging to and loving you. If you were here I’d hug you and love you - now I can just tell you, but just as soon as you get home, I can give to you all the love I'm holding close - Darling, Darling, Darling - the Special man just called - and I'm crying because I just can't help it - Oh sweety--- I love you terribly much- Bobby</text>
