<dcterms:description><![CDATA[WOMEN'S LEADER TAKEN BY DEATH: Mrs. J. C. Gess, 73, Former President Of Indiana Rebekahs.; WOMEN'S LEADER TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. J. C. Gess, 73, Former President of Indiana Rebekahs. CHEWELAH, Wash., April 17.—Mrs. J. C. Gess, 73, who had been ill many years and bedridden the last three, died at her home here today. She was born at Camden, Ind., and became a lodge and women's club leader in that state. She was a former president of the Indiana Rebekah assembly. Although she had lived in the west many years, she retained her membership in the Indiana organizations. Her maiden name was Sarah Eliza- bets Moses. She came here in 1905 and the same year married Mr. Gess, proprietor of the Chewelah Feed company, who survives her, as do a son, E. N. Gess, assistant postmaster here, and two daughters, Mrs. Avery Johnson, Oregon City., Ore., and Mrs. Inez Hunt, Kahlotus, Wash. Even after Mrs. Gess' illness began keeping her at home, she retained a marked interest in civic affairs. She was particularly ardent for the Red Cross and, seated in a wheel chair, spent many hours knitting for that organization. She also retained a lively interest in the women's club here and within the last year had begun work on a project for a children's corner in the club's annual flower show. Funeral services for her will be held at the Rigg & Stapish chapel here at 1 p. m. Thursday. Her body will be taken to Spokane, where it will be cremated and from where her ashes will be sent to her birthplace in Indiana.]]></dcterms:description>
