<text>00:00:00-Part 1 Family came from Czechoslovakia to farm in Manitowoc area. Uncles worked on farms and father worked as a carpenter in Manitowoc.00:05:02-Part 2 Her father built a shop on 10th St and then built his home at 532 N 10th St. As a family, they lived on the hill above the river. They could see the sailboats and sidewheeler docked in the river for the winter.00:07:40-Part 3 It was interesting to watch boat launches. New wood was used for the launches and then left in the river. Her father would salvage the wood and they hauled it up stairs he had built into the hill.00:13:17-Part 4 As children, they would run down to the river and sit in their father’s rowboat to catch the waves from the passing tugboat. They would also fish for crabs and other pan fish. In spite of living so close to the river, noone ever learned how to swim.00:16:52-Part 5 They frequently went to dances at the Opera House.00:18:30-Part 6 Lodl married a Bohemian man from Two Rivers. He worked at the Goods and then the Rolling Mill. Mrs. Lodl worked in the knitting mills and the glove factory.00:22:12-Part 7 They didn’t have a formal wedding.00:23:58 -Part 8 Some of the Bohemian food included rye bread, dumplings, sauerkraut and kolaches.00:24:46-Part 9 Religion was not a part of her life. She speaks of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.00:27:03-Part 10 Lodl had little formal education. She went to Lulling School but had to stay home often to help her mother who was sickly.00:27:47-Part 11 Her husband worked in copper mines during WWI before they were married.00:28:33-Part 12 She enjoys living in her apartment at River Hills.00:29:48-Part 13 Thoughts on Manitowoc. She recalled one major storm in Manitowoc that took the roof off a building at the fair grounds. Fog was frequent. Tourists come to fish.00:34:33-Part 14 After son left service, they traveled quite a bit on vacation.</text>
