Description
Holograph, signed with initials
Maria Weston Chapman writes that three boxes for the anti-slavery fair are in Havre, waiting for the sailing of the packet ship, St. Nicholas, on the 16th. All the French steamships are disabled, and the government forbids transportation of those by Liverpool. The contributions for the fair include elegant crochet bags, which cost $20 and will sell for $100. Among the books packed in the boxes, Chapman wants those by Madame Eugenie Foa to be translated by Lucia and Emma Weston. Chapman discourses on Parisian fashions in headgear, and (on page two) inserts an illustrative thumbnail drawing of a profile of a woman wearing a bonnet. She discusses costs and proposed prices of various articles. Chapman includes a sketch to be used in the advertisement of the offerings at the Fourteenth National Anti-Slavery Bazaar in Faneuil Hall
