Description
This cow blanket was made by Kate Clayton Donaldson (ca. 1864-1960), more commonly known as "Granny" Donaldson, of Marble, North Carolina. The brown wool homespun blanket is covered with crocheted figures of animals. A tree and house are grounded at the bottom. In a 1959 interview with John Parris, Donaldson said, "I can't rightly tell you how I come to make the first one. Nobody taught me or showed me. I never got the ideas from anybody and I never copied one for the good reason I'd never seen one, much less heard tell of one." Donaldson made these blankets in the 1930s.
