Title

Edna Vieh and Friend Pose for a Full Length Portrait at Matsura's Studio, ca. 1912

Description

Standing on Matsura's studio rug made of sheepskin or some type of white fur, Mrs. Edna Vieh (left) and a young female friend pose for a full length portrait. The women stand the same--with on arm resting behind their back--their heads facing slightly to one side. Mrs. Vieh wears a dark dress with a crocheted accent collar that fans into a bell shape down her front. The other woman wears a white crocheted or lacy top and a matching skirt that also carries a strip of lace. Both wear bracelets; the woman in white has on a winding serpent bracelet. Mrs. Vieh and her husband Howard (Edward?), were good friends of Judge William Compton Brown. Mr. Vieh taught music classes and was appointed as Okanogan's Justice of the Peace in 1917, city treasurer, and president of Okanogan Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Vieh was a nurse and often visited the Native Americans living near St. Mary's Mission.
