Description

Nisei female, born March 1, 1924 in Yuba City, California to a business family. From the age of three until she was eighteen, Molly attended Japanese language school Monday through Friday after her public school classes. In 1942, the family was evacuated to Tule Lake, California. While bitter about internment she saw opportunities to learn. She continued Japanese language, flower arrangement, tea ceremony, knitting and sewing. Her family returned to Marysville in 1945. Molly attended design schools in San Jose and Los Angeles for four years. After her marriage she continued her quest of Japanese cultural arts and was active in the promotion of international cultural and educational exchanges between Japan and America, and China and America. Her deep belief in Buddhism led her to enroll in a three year course at Chuo Buddhist Institute in Kyoto and was ordained as a priest in November 1995. She received numerous awards for these accomplishments between 1969 and1991. See the appendix in the bound copy.
