Title

Knitting Factory, Northfield, Vt.

Date

1906-1910

Description

This building originally housed the Vermont Hosiery & Machinery Company, where hosiery was knitted using equipment purchased from the Lasherhose Company in Bennington, Vt.. Starting in 1907, the company employed ten workers and used ten Lasher knitting machines. Many decades later the building became home to the Cabot Hosiery Mills. As their business grew, they sold the building and moved to a new facility in Northfield, where they turn out their famous Darn Tough socks today. The building still stands and currently houses one of the last video rental stores in Vermont, as well as storage units and a second-hand shop.
