Band is interlaced cotton with fringe tassel at each end, urucued. Outer side of band is hidden by a row of bead and feather tassels. Fiber string fastened to each fringe tassel. Note: items not designated a&b. Dr. Newton says these were obtained from Ire Maria Ribeiro, a 39 y/o female, made by Ire Donilia who wove the bands and Maria Ribeiro who put on the beads. Used by Chumduka Luiza, a 3 year old female, daughter of Maria Ribeiro. The band was "made with sticks" (knitting), which is called hakedo kachud uh. The band is 2z cotton interlacing (braiding) called kachu?ani?kra?o auh. The ends of the braiding are bound with 2z tucum caroa, and form tassels. Pendants along the band, glass seed beads and macaw feathers from a captive macaw. The tie strand is 2z2s tucum/caroa called broichu. Stained with urucu. Newton field photos: color slide B7.9. Pet macaw which they have had for 8 years and plucked feathers from. Macaw was shot and fell, but just the feathers broke. They fed him until he was tame. When they pull out his feathers he screams, but they grow back in. Price paid: 2.50 crn. Associated specimens: Haket = wood with bitter bark, used to make knitting sticks. Sample is 1968-86 A-d.
