Ann Lipsitt speaks of growing up in Providence, Rhode Island, attending an integrated school, and leaving to attend Goddard College. She also speaks of meeting Will Miller (1940-2005), a professor of philosophy at the University of Vermont, at a rally and becoming involved with the Burlington Peace Coalition in 1980. As well, she speaks of the development of her relationship with Will Miller, leading to their partnership in June, 1981. She describes their community in Westford, Vermont, which was originally loosely organized as a collective. but devolved into a close-knit neighborhood by 1980. She goes on to speak of Will Miller and the Philosophy Department purge at the University of Vermont in the 1970s, and her involvement in special education in Vermont in the late 1970s.
