Description

A family portrait of a mother and her two children. The mother is wearing a dark dress with a lace collar and lace cuffs. She is holding onto a photocard of a hat that was also taken by Urlin. The daughter is wearing a plaid dress and black woolen stockings. The son is wearing a double breasted coat with shorts and knitted stockings. The two children are both wearing buttoned up boots. Photograph was taken by George C Urlin. George Cambridge Urlin (1854 – 1942) was born in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, November 25, 1854. He had a wife named Alice Urlin. He was active as a photographer in Columbus (Franklin) from 1873 to about 1887, when William Beckley was his partner. In 1890 and 1891, he and Jacob Becker had a gallery in Cleveland (Cuyahoga), but in 1890 he was listed again in Columbus, this time as the partner of John A. Pfeifer. Urlin sent work to all the Ohio State Fairs held between 1879 and 1885 and received a total of ten silver medals and sixteen “best” awards. He was a realtor after the photography business and he kept to real estate business until he died. He died in Columbus, July 22, 1942.
