A Note from the Contributor
Maria C. Vallejo: Close-up Pulled Thread Table Cloth. Take a moment and look at the path the thread takes before it becomes the embellishment of that void created by pulling threads in both directions. The thread is carefully interwoven as if making a basket. It is basket-weaving without the benefit of rigid material. When and where did I find this magnificent piece of textile art? I remember how beautiful linens were being discarded and very easy to find in thrift shops, many under a dollar. I knew these very intense labor and patient hand-created beauties had been the pride and joy of many a grandmother. Scandinavian and women from the Baltic countries have mastered the techniques and subtle elegance of white one white that calls for a special dinner on their interpretation of snowflakes.
