Wooden Tray With Filet Lace Crocheted Design of the "Spirit of St. Louis"

Rectangular wooden tray with a glass bottom covering a cream-colored filet lace table mat depicting the "Spirit of St. Louis." The tray and table mat were made by Ida M. Olson of Chicago, Illinois, in 1927 or 1928. Ida was married to Walter E. Olson, the president of Olson Rug Company, which was one of the nation's largest rug manufacturers in the first half of the twentieth century. The pattern of the crocheted mat was designed by Mrs. F. A. Wright in 1927 and was available commercially in stores across the country. Ida Olson gave this tray to Charles A. Lindbergh in 1927 or 1928, and Lindbergh loaned it to the Missouri Historical Society in 1928. He gave it to the Society in 1933.
