Title

Sewing Box, Andrew Jackson, 1828

Creator

Jackson, Andrew

Description

This 1828 campaign sewing box offered women a way to show their support for a candidate, though they couldn’t vote at the time. This box shows Andrew Jackson, who ran as a member of the newly formed Democratic-Republican (or simply, Democratic) party. A similar box was made showing Jackson’s opponent, National Republican and incumbent John Quincy Adams. After a contentious campaign, Jackson won the presidency.
