164 February 14 - Wednesday - 8:00 P.M. Jonquil too bulky - but I'll be sure to press one for our scrapbook. Happy St. Valentine's Day my darling: and here's to the ones ahead of us. I was sitting here in the arm chair rereading the letters I received from you this morning (#'s 130-131 - still haven't #’s128-129, and feeling pretty miserable, when there was a knock on the door, and there was Sammy (don't you think the name fits him?) with your flowers to us - Wendy's pert little bouquet of garden pinks, and my huge beribboned box of the most glorious long stemmed jonquils I've ever seen. Sammy said that you had ordered roses, but that he’d heard me say how much I liked jonquils, and they were the nicest. He tried to phone to ask which I’d prefer, but I wasn't home. I loved your dear messages, they brought you so very close that I gave you a hug right then and there. I've put Wendy's bouquet in the little green vase you brought us at the hospital, and put it between your smiling picture and hers on the desk. The jonquils [pg 2] fill two large vases - one on the coffee table, and the other on the piano beside your looking-straight-at-us pictures. You've made me very happy darling - and don't ever forget for a minute how much I love you. Wendy, I know will want to write you herself tomorrow - and if it's a nice day she will wear one of her flowers pinned to her snow suit. I enjoyed hearing about your party tho I'll confess I was a bit jealous and envious of Hansen and Stoddart at the dinner party. Your description and little picture were so good that I didn't have any trouble visualizing it at all. I could have shook the Colonel when I read of your possible transfer to the sanitation department. The school is just your forte - I suppose the other could be too - but why? I do hope you were able to convince him to let you stay where you are. Wendy's top right tooth has started to break thru the gum. Poor little sweetie every once in awhile she started to cry - big tears running down her cheeks, because it hurts. There [pg 3] isn't much I can do, except take her mind off her troubles by giving her a cookie or walking her across the floor. She seems to prefer standing and walking now to sitting and lying It keeps me busy helping, because she still can't quite make it herself. I forgot to tell you that I took my ring out again yesterday. I probably shouldn't but I feel as if I want to wear it! It's much too big - the jeweler is going to let me know tomorrow if it can be made smaller and the 42 reengraved. If I didn't gain after having Wendy I might as well have the ring smaller, so I will feel more comfortable about wearing it. Walter told me tonight of a CA officer who had been sent from Burma to the Presidio for reassignment. Do you think there is any possibility of that happening to you? Walter, himself thinks he will be going out in about a month - Two C teams are leaving shortly and 500 or so men have come in from Princeton and Harvard. This afternoon I finished all the printing in our snapshot album. [pg 4] I haven't bought a new one yet, because the only one I saw and liked was $10 - and we don't have to spend that much. Walked downtown this evening to see if the last batch of pictures was ready, but it wasn't. I've been concentrating on getting my sweater finished, and I have just about half a sleeve to go. When it's all finished, I'll put it on, and have Helen take a picture. It will be hard to wait another month for my snapshots of you - I do hope nothing happens to them. Would you like me to send more film and if so what size. If developing and printing facilities are scarce on the island - how bout sending the roll airmail to me - or is that taboo? Probably is obviously - Well, my sweety, back to knitting and happy looks at the flowers - We send you a special big and little heartful of love tonight - Bobby P.S. S. said he made up Wendy's boquet [sic] for free - you might thank him some time - I’d like it best if we could thank him together when you get back. DEAR DADDY- MUMMY SHOWED ME MY VALENTINE SOON AS I WOKE UP THIS MORNING. I LOVE MY OWN SPECIAL FLOWERS. I WON’T PULL OFF THE TOPSES. I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH PLEASE COME HOME SOON TO PLAY WITH ME.
