Catalog entry for an item in the Texas Fashion Collection including a photograph of the item and text describing information known about the designer and manufacture date, provenance, and physical descriptions. Description of object in photo: Postcard or photo of "Woman's Costume of Attica/over 100 years old/ Bought by H.S. Marcus in Greece (1949)" Attica, Greece. Woman's daily attire from the mid 1800's. Four-piece ensemble. Cropped, long sleeved jacket of natural cotton with gold embroidery in floral motif with gold sequins and intermittent red, green, purple, maroon embroidered embellishments. 1.5" gold cord fringe along sleeve. Bodice is of medium weave cotton and sleeves are a fine weave cotton. Sleeveless, long (thigh length) natural colored felted, wool vest with red wool trim along bottom, arm holes, and center split. Red trim edged with red cord and embellished with coarse gold cord in swirled pattern. Full length, flared chemise (poukamiso) of heavy cotton with sleeves ending at shoulder. Crew neck with one button closure at top and 15" split at center front. 5" high saw-toothed pattern, cotton red and black embroidery along bottom hem. Sheer natural color scarf with unfinished edges. Gold cord floral embroidery at each end. Apron of coarse woven natural cotton with geometric floral designs along the bottom half. Embroidery framed by stitched on cream and maroon crocheted edging.
