68 Nov. 20 - Monday 7:30 P.M. My darling: Received #45 this afternoon, and I was so relieved - was beginning to feel uneasy. I guess you either cut it up or knew about it - n'importe-I'm looking forward to a nice long letter soon, answering my many questions. This has been another hard day for me - the trunks arrived - and it was slow torture unpacking the wardrobes - haven't touched the big one yet. I swear right now, I won't repack them to move til your home. Am going to leave all but the things Wendy and I need and your pipe's rack - Found the soccer shoes, and one pair of G.J. blacks. The uniforms I'm going to store in the trunks. I fixed Wendy's seat for her and she fits! Looks like a little pixie, and knew just what to do. She's got six rolls down her front - will try to take a picture for you. Poor little sweetie is cutting teeth - and with the confusion of the trunks - she had an awful crying spell - It was good for me to be able to comfort her. I held her, and it just broke my heart to hear her sobs. She had an early bath and supper, and I sang her to sleep. I guess her gums are sore, because she cries when she bites on her fingers. The Christmas tree ornaments and lights arrived in fine shape - just have to replace [pg 2] two of the bulbs. We'll have a tree darling - as near to last year's as possible. This morning two big Christmas boxes arrived for Wendy from M and F. I've put them with your two boxes - looks as if Wendy and I will be opening presents all day. Managed to do some Christmas shopping this morning. For Muz I got a very attractive hand blocked breakfast set - for Jean a pretty white slip - for Albert a pair of imported English socks - and for Father a hand woven wool and raw silk tie. I think I'll get Mother a nightie - a trifle for Susie and Yardley soap for Mama. Hope to get the packages off by Saturday of this week. The newspapers have all sorts of stories these days - bombings and just recently a report of an earthquake near New Guniea. There were two reports about two weeks ago about bombings in the Marianas - but no damage was reported. My back is still sore to say nothing of my hands - but I don't anticipate any trouble. In the future I'll take care not to get mixed up in the trees and bushes. This morning I was able to get an identical pair of baby shoes - they will be ready [pg 3] in about ten days. From now on I'm going to have the charms soldered instead of just being fastened on. I don't know what to get Wendy for Christmas because she has so much. I think tho I will institute a little ceremony for her - Beginning this Christmas we will make up a bundle of Wendy's outgrown clothes and give them to some needy baby. In that way Wendy will get pleasure when she is old enough to understand - in both giving and receiving. If you think it's a good idea, we'll do it for each of the children. Had a letter from Betsy [Lenine?] this morning - she is in Washington now - and has hopes of being in Pearl Harbor in about six months. She, as well as everyone else I've spoken to say that separation grows worse instead of better as time goes on. At first I think it's more acute - then penetrating and nagging - it's so hard being left behind. Write me long and often darling - I need your letters to keep me going- Lots and lots of love from you big and little sweetie- Bobby 19/42 Breakfast - last microbiology class - Father telephoned - Father came - talked til 6:00 - Folk Dancing - Waffle Wing - Albert and Wanda - Walk - Blenheims 19/43 Davy phoned - doesn't know whether he'll be able to make it for Thanksgiving - Am knitting white baby sweater. 20/42 Breakfast at 9:00 - bus downtown - Jensens - Tiffany - Cartier - Ms. Kahn - Peasant Craft-Charleston Garden - Wanamakers - Beethoven's 9th 20/43 Norman arrived at 10:30 and we met him at the station - came back, ate, and talked til 1:00. Up at 5:00 for breakfast, and Warr took Norman down to the station.
