369 August 17 - Friday - 6:10 P.M. Darling mine: The roses are so lovely - they've kept me happy all day. Tonight they are just about half open, and smell so sweet. To add to my excitement - this morning we received the wooden box. Wendy and I love our matching bracelets, and put them on right away. Wendy's is a trifle too large, but she'll grow into it in no time. When I put hers on I said, “Pretty-” and she replied “Pitty, pitty, pitty ah-hh.” The bead sets didn't seem to be moldy at all. We will keep the set from the 4th graders, and use the other two for Christmas. [pg 2] The cart and boat - who made them? The cart I'm going to use as a centerpiece, and the boat we will have for our first son. Bob was completely entranced with it. Thank you for the little green dish. I'm using them for ashtrays, and will use the cup for cigarets. It was a very satisfactory box, and I had a fine time opening and unpacking it out on the patio - Thank you my darling - your presinks are always such fun. Received your letter of the 10th this morning - the one about Russia's entry into the war. In the same mail there were two other packages for us E.M. Forster's The Longest Journey from [pg 3] Helen to me, and a pink piqué coat with irish crocheted trimmed collar and cuffs for Wendy from Mother. Saw Bev in town and she is in a low streak. Everything seems to be going wrong, and to top it all for some reason Bud doesn't think he is going to get home til after Christmas now. Grammy Price seems to think that you will be going into Japan, and won't get home for a long while. Each time she mentions it, to reassure myself, I tell her you will be home this spring, but always with my fingers mentally crossed. That would be an awful blow. We didn't go to the beach [pg 4] this afternoon, so Wendy and I went downtown again. Finally got the notebook paper you asked for, and will mail it out during the next day or two. 9:50 P.M. Thought perhaps the SM would come tonight, but he didn't. I've been reading a charming little book, which I hope to order and send to you -perhaps in your Christmas box. Sweety, I do love our new bracelets - have mine on now, and it looks so well on my tan. They are very nicely made, aren't they. To bed now, little sweetie seems to wake up, earlier every morning, and doesn't like to catnap anymore. Goodnight my darling - I love you so very much- Bobby
