James Sallie describes his wife’s membership in the Eastern Star and recalls his upbringing in a close-knit community. He reflects on the Black power movement, which he notes as being more assertive, and addresses misconceptions about the Civil Rights Movement. He discusses racial disturbances in the 1940s and shares his thoughts on changing depictions of Black people in media. He recalls witnessing Klan activities and states his opinion that Black Americans should participate in celebrating the Bicentennial. He mentions Black businesses in Beaver Falls and the churches in that area.
