Sep. 6 - an English man of war steamer came in and anchored (the Clio). It is from Esquimault for Clyoquot to see about the party of gold prospectors. Sep. 7 - Steamer sailed before morning. Sep. 8 - Capt. John returned from Victoria. Sep. 9 - Ghucharkuox has been here today marking blankets and teaching the girls to knit, gave paper for 50 cents. Sep. 10 - Lightkeepers went to Port Angeles today. I sent mail with them. Sep. 11 - Whattie has agreed to bring stone for foundation to mi Indian house which Mr. Webster proposes to building north ofthe school house. 85 loads for $1 a load. I went with him to a lot of fine building stone about halfway between Neeah brook and Kwitla Point and showed him the kind required. He with his squaw and Kawwilt, a slave worman, will work in the canoe. . . 6 girls here today knitting 4 boys at school. I put up a swing in the basement and the children have had a fine time. Sep. 12 - There was too much surf today for Whattie to bring stones but he and his squaw have been at work all day collecting and piling stones so as to be able to make quick trips when the tide serves. I went after dinner mid carried him the big stone hammer with which I broke several large rocks to show him how to work. Sep. 13 - A number of Waatch Indimis came here today to complain that the cattle had destroyed their potatoes. I told them they should have put up fences but as I could not make them understmid I told them to send up Haspooey and I would get the facts from him and report them to Mr. Webster. Plenty of children here today full of fun. Sep. 14 - Unpleasant, drizzly day. MISSING PAGE Sep. 23 - Bark Narramissic from San Frmicisco anchored with goods aboard for Mr. Maggs. Mr. Phillips put up a reel yesterday for the sein and the boys last evening and this morning swung upon it and nearly knocked it down. I drove off Legs, Kobal and another boy mid then helped Mr. phillips fix it. Great potlatch today at Hosett. Al 1 the boys have gone. Sep. 24 - Sunday - Bark sailed for Pt. Townsend. I sent by her a bow and arrows which Jimmy had been making for Mr. Gerrish and a couple of canoes for Mr. Gerrish's son mid some shells for Mrs. Gerrish.
