Photograph dated December 5, 1942 shows Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour with Miss Lillian Castle who, in the span of one year, knitted over 1128 woolen caps for American soldiers at a rate of three caps a day. Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour had wired Secretary of the Navy, Frank Knox and Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson to request that an Army-Navy "E" award be given to Miss Castle whose record was believed to be unequalled by any woman in the country. Miss Castle was a wardrobe woman on the set of the Hope-Lamour comedy, "They Got Me Covered." Army-Navy "E" awards were given to defense factories for outstanding effort in production of war equipment.
