Description
Kirsten was born in Denmark in 1837. She enjoyed telling stories about her life in Denmark. Kirsten was an early convert to the Latter Days Saint Church and was among the Mormon pioneers who pushed a handcart to Utah. Kirsten married Jens Pater Benson in 1857. She moved to Clarkston in 1868, her first home was a log house. When they moved to Clarkston they took one of the Johnston's Army cannon balls, and used it to crush or grind the wheat for bread. Kirsten's granddaughter shared many memories of Kirsten. 'Some of the memory pictures I have of her are cooking meats, slicing bread, watching her make and fry doughnuts or crullers. I can see her tending babies, rocking them in the cradle, canning fruit, carding wool, knitting socks and mittens, making quilts, reading her Danish newspaper, then pushing her glasses up on her forehead and forgetting where they were, and having everyone around hunting for them.' Kirsten died in 1910 at the age of 73.
