Title

Norwegian spinning wheel

Creator

Richard Nicol

Description

This wheel was brought to Seattle by early Norwegian immigrant. Housewives spun wool in yarn on wheels like this, to knit into caps, scarves, sweaters and mittens. The immigrating Norwegian woman who carefully preserved this household tool, bringing it halfway around the world, would have used it in Washington just as her mother had used it in Norway.
