Pig trough stockings

Description

Pig trough stockings made of machine knitted ivory silk with simple clocked motifs. Two notes are attached. One handwritten in pencil reads, "These are the Pig trough stockings." The other typed in caps reads, "Because the younger sister married before the older one these stockings were given to the older sister by the groom and she had to dance in a new pig trough. This was the custom in the days of 1829.
