In a letter to her uncle, Miyuki Okine thanks Seichi Okine for his generous gifts of good, which were difficult to obtain in post-war Japan. She also congratulates him on the birth of his first grandchild. Japanese to English Translation: Dear Sir, (Page 1) Thank you for your repeated letters and gifts. According to your letter, I am glad to know that everyone is staying healthy as usual. As for us, we are all fine--please don’t worry about us. After reading your letter the other day, we all looked forward to receiving your gift and it arrived on the 30th. The mail arrived first to notify us about the package from the US. We were all so excited to hear about it. After picking up your package at the post office, we opened it and found a lot of great things for the children. I really appreciate it. (Page 2) Again, thank you for these goods, such as warm knitted shirts for our dad. We couldn’t even dream for having such high quality gifts. They are all something so rare to find in Japan. I truly appreciate your gifts from the bottom of my heart. All of our kids are excited to receive gift from their uncle in US. My dad sometimes talks about his memories while he was staying in the US. And such stories make me want to fly over immediately. By the way, according to your letter, Masao had a baby. Congratulations! I guess you and your wife must be so pleased with your first grandchild. (Page 3) And I believe he is growing up healthily day by day. Please take good care of him.
