Description

Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Photograph article dated August 18, 1962 partially reads, "A woman has a three-fold obligation in the world today, states 17-year-old Sara Hitchens of Northridge. The Granada Hills High School honor graduate voices the opinion that women must be "feminine, socially active and intellectually well-educated to command interest and respect in the world today..." Sara, who will attend Stanford University this fall as a National Merit Scholarship winner, says her major interests center around academic expression." Hitchens knits an afghan as a sewing project.
