Description

John Van Cott House - The house was located at what is now 5820 Maspeth Avenue, the old address was No. 165 Maspeth Ave. west of Van Cott Avenue (now 58th Place). Sign outside the house says "Operators Wanted"; it was most likely a knitting mill or clothing manufacturer, the house was later converted into a bottled gas plant. It was owned by J. Van Cott 1852 through 1873 maybe longer, and was still standing July 1958.
