Title

Dormitories at Western Knitting Mills

Date

1-Jan-00

Description

The building on the far left was the original dormitory, with the two adjoining buildings added sometime later along Water Street on the south side of Western Knitting Mills. All three dormitories have since been demolished. The Western Knitting Mills factory was built in 1896 and produced knitted goods until 1939. The building was later owned by the McAleer Manufacturing Company, later known as the Higbie Manufacturing Company, and then ITT Higbie. In 1994 the Rochester Mills Beer Company restored the building and it now operates as a restaurant and brewery. (RRP-292) [date is approximate] Ray Russell Postcard Collection
