Transcript; 14-pages typed transcript of an oral history interview of Margaret Graham about her family and house. The Grahams moved into their house in 1947 or 1948, and it did not go through many changes. In the late-forties, the whole area was farms or prairie. There were apple orchards and some cows, and when the highways were put in, there was rapid growth. Her mother, who was a very practical person, liked solid colors over patterns to decorate the house (e.g. curtains). The interior did not have much stationary furniture because her parents held political parties and needed space. Her father was friends with Communists. They were known as the Haunted House on the Hill for Halloween. The family was very close-knit. Margaret's parents were very involved with the Democratic Party. They were very liberal. Her father was a lawyer and had a sharp tongue in court against white men. He was an early feminist (although held some reservations when it concerned his wife). He believed humans were not more important than animals and would save the lives of spiders and skunks when the opportunities arose.
