Description
Treadle type spinning wheel, painted blue. Engraved with O:LSS and painted initials KTDH. Used to spin sheep wool into thread or yarn which was then either woven into cloth or knit or crocheted into sweaters, socks, hats, scarves, mittens. Owned and used by Hilda Hofseth Olson's paternal grandmother, Karen Tostendotter Haglsveen Hofseth (1840-1911). Karen & Hans G. Hofseth (1840-1921) raised six sons. They were: 1. Charles Theodore Hofseth (1869-1933), (Hilda's father) m. Janna Regina 'Rellie' Eddy, 2. Julius Hofseth (1872-1909), 3. Magnus Hofseth (1875-1941) m. Ada Ellsworth, 4. Hjelmar Elmer Peter Hofseth (ca. 1878- ), 5. Anton Hofseth (1879- ), 6. John C. Hofseth (1882-1891). The family originally lived in Akan Township and later moved to the village of Excelsior.
