Description
East façade of the Heresite & Chemical Company plant at 822 South 14th Street in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, between Clark and Franklin Streets, as it appeared during or just after World War II. Parked in front of the building is a 1940s vintage automobile, possibly a 1941 Chevrolet or Buick. In the foreground are tracks of the Chicago & North Western Railroad. The three-story main section of the plant had been a knitting mill prior to Heresite’s founding in 1935. On the south side is a lower section that was added sometime after July, 1943. (On July 21 the firm announced the planned expansion and reported that a wartime application for necessary construction materials was pending before federal officials.) The company, which is still in operation, manufactured industrial coatings, synthetic resins, and other products.
