Description

A quilt made up of scrap fabric in many different colors. Each piece of fabric is cut out into a small circle, and stitched together with like colors at four points, creating 176 large squares that are then joined together. The circles are not uniformly stitched onto the backing fabric, resulting in the circles casting shadows and adding depth to the piece.

A Note from the Contributor

Maria C. Vallejo: Yo-Yo QuiltVery little if any piece of fabric ever goes to waste. She was a determined and thrifty woman. Barbara Giraldo, a friend I knew from infancy, gifted me this quilt in one of my visits to Medellin. In addition to her hours of stitching and saving fabric, I cherish the memories hidden in the many yo-yos that make her work shine.
