Description

Chris Campbell, manager of the Richland Library Edgewood location, interviews Evelyn Jefferson of Cayce and Raymond Richardson of Columbia about growing up in the Ward One neighborhood in downtown Columbia, S.C. Ward One was a predominately African American neighborhood that was demolished in the 1960s and 1970s through an urban renewal campaign. Former residents dispersed, but many did not forget the tight-knit community they once had in Ward One. The interviewees are members of the Ward One Reunion Organization, formed to celebrate those who came from Ward One. This interview is one of three oral histories recorded with Ward One Reunion Organization members on November 18, 2023 at Richland Library Edgewood.
