New Royal Family Is Domestic To Extreme In Its Daily Life.; New Royal Family Is Domestic to Extreme in Its Daily Life LONDON, Dec. 15. (NANA)—(By Wireless.)—As the duchess of York, the new queen's days were filled with social engagements, some of them boring and irksome to her, but she always carried them out with the charming and friendly smile which is famous throughout the British empire. The royal couple, however, are essentially home-loving and lead probably the quietest and most domestic life of any in the country. They very seldom go out to either private or restaurant parties and only occasionally visit the theater and cinema, and, when they do so, they appear unheralded and unannounced. The new queen is entirely wrapped up in her duties as wife and mother, and these come before everything. She has a most ardent admirer in her husband, for whom she makes an ideal companion. She accompanies him whenever possible and looks after his personal comfort just as any-middle-class wife, and when he is tired and wants to be alone, she takes care that nobody disturbs him in the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of his study. Always Considerate. She always is extremely considerate to her staff, and frequently, when they returned home late at night, they let themselves into the house and enjoyed a light meal left for them in the boudoir, where the duchess would make coffee in an electric percolator. The king personally likes nothing better than to be with his wife and children, who are extremely fond of him, for he has the faculty, which is invaluable in a father, of being able to enter into their games as sympathetically as if he were one of them. Both the king and his wife read a great deal of history and biographies as well as novels, and the queen has been known to reveal an unexploited talent for light verse. It is fortunate that Princess Elizabeth, who, unless a brother is born, will be the next queen of England, should have such loving and sensible parents to prepare her for the important duties which lie ahead. Routine Is Regular. The queen insists on a regular routine for the children. Their meals have to be punctual, for punctuality is a law which has ruled the lives of every royal person. A few minutes' delay in their well-planned day would result in catastrophe. The school lessons begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue, with a break for exercise, until lunch. The afternoons are devoted to games, and occasional dancing class, skating lesson, a visit to the zoo or a drive through Kew gardens or through the park or some other excursion of educational interest. The two princesses are especially fond of visiting the zoo, where they nursed a baby alligator, talked to a baby chimpanzee, saw the lions fed and laughed at the antics of the penguins. Elizabeth, who has a generous nature, once tried to hand one of her toys to some child in the street. She likes playing with other girls and has many little friends of her own age whom she delights to entertain in the miniature cottage presented to her by the people of Wales. She and her sister clean and wash the four-room house themselves and wash and iron the red-and-white-checked gingham curtains. Elizabeth is fond of animals and loves skating and swimming. She has several hobbies, including gardening, knitting and making cakes, and has a scrapbook in which she keeps photographs of various royal relatives from all over the world. (Copyright.)
