Photos show views of the gravestone of Elizabeth Boit in Lakeside Cemetery on North Avenue. The plot is located near "Rainbow Path" at the northern end of the cemetery. Boit was one of the founders of the Harvard Knitting Mills, a clothing manufacturer and major employer in Wakefield in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Miss Boit also founded the Wakefield Home for Aged Women in 1894 to 'furnish a home for women who have been residents of the town of Wakefield not less than ten years. ' The home still exists at 5 Bennett Street and was renamed the 'Elizabeth E. Boit Home for Aged Women' in 1921 in recognition of Boit's contributions. Elizabeth Boit's birth date is cited in several published sources as July 9, 1848, but the inground stone at her grave says 1849. Photos taken at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009
