Description
The double-sided knitting technique was intriguing. I had to try it! Once I figured out how it worked, I designed this hot pad with a house motif. It was knitted with British wool bought in the 1980s from the Nancy Crawford Yarn Shop in Austin, Texas.
The house hot pad design seemed a good fit for Country Handcrafts magazine. I sent a design proposal to the editors. They accepted the proposal and asked me to design an additional double-sided knit hot pad with a flower motif.
The designs were published in "House Warmings" (potholder designs and patterns), Country Handcrafts, pp. 4–5, Bazaar issue, 1992.
I gave the brown and cream original hot pad to my mother-in-law, Gene Frederick. She displayed it in her kitchen for many years. She probably never used it, because in 2025 it still looked much like it did when it was newly finished.
