Description
"Some days I don't even think of you" was a formative illusion knit in Emma Oliver's MFA program at Illinois State. It was the first time the illusion knits she made were hung in a room instead of being pinned to a wall, allowing the pieces to take up even more visual (and emotional) space.
The piece uses illusion knitting which is a technique that allows the maker to hide imagery or text in the knit which is only revealed to the viewer from specific angles. The "slow-burn" effect of having difficult or hurtful text revealed to the viewer helps to lessen the emotional burden and attack. The work implies that the "you" is thought of so infrequently, but in the task of making this object they would have been consistently recalled, showing the lie in the work.
