Description

United States Army airman's "soft" flying helmet is made of dark brown leather, lined with medium olive brown wool knit. Most of the leather has faded to a deep brown. There are side flaps to give ears added protection from engine noise, and could be unsnapped to allow flyer to hear. On back is a loop for the goggles strap. Two soft brown metal snaps are located at the chin, one on each ear flap and one on each side of the helmet interior. Worn by David Benjamin Morris of the United States Army Air Service. [All National Bureau of Standards colors].
