Description

Describes a harrowing journey in a snowstorm by bus, on foot, and by horse drawn sled. A description of Christmas rituals follows including the kissing of the log, eating on a sack of straw and the contents of the special meals. The day after Christmas involved visiting the graveyard, mourning, socializing and presenting a feast for the dead which is shared with neighbors. Aspects of daily life are described, including morning rituals and daytime activities that the women engage in like knitting and cooking. New Year's Day customs are also written about as well as another long journey through the snow to return to Belgrad.
