A Note from the Contributor
Maria C. Vallejo: The Kimono Travels West The kimono, a magnificent piece of clothing made without curves to fit the female body, has dressed Japanese women for centuries. The lady who embroidered this kimono was more influential in my life than anyone. I so well remember her early mornings dressing up and enjoying personal artistic expression. Maruja Noreña de Vallejo was her name; she was my mentor, my friend, MY MOTHER.
