A Note from the Contributor
Maria C. Vallejo: My sister and her husband once owned an antique furniture store in Los Angeles and sold mainly cast iron beds, brought by "pickers". My sewing machine, a gift from them, traveled in a picker's truck. The story goes that it is the original old prototype fabricated by a gentleman in Indiana, and it has no serial number. I broke the needle as I turned the crank.
